The Safe Families Program was designed to give Judges and agencies a treatment option for those who have had family violence between non-intimate partners. This is usually involves parents, adult children and siblings. Sometimes they are residing together; other times they have conflicted relationships. Sometimes they are neighbors or others.

Traditional domestic violence programs are based on sociological theories of male dominance of women (power and control model). The Safe Families Program gives an overview of mature dealings and respect for oneself and others, and a special emphasis on negative factors which may encourage or support violence.

The program is designed to be completed in as few as ten weeks, though most take twenty. There are twenty classes, each with a distinct topic. The classes are psychoeducational: we present information, and there is time for group discussion. Examples of some topics are Parenting Children and Adolescents, Anger Management, Emotional Independence, Machismo, Career Planning, Self-Centeredness, Stress Management, Assertiveness, Mate Selection and others. The information is applicable to day-to-day relationships and situations.

Classes are held online using Zoom. We have both day and evening classes. Those who have financial problems can spread the classes out over more weeks, thereby reducing their per week out of pocket expenses. There is a fifty dollar enrollment and a thirty dollar per class fee.
